Special Claim 2025 (t̓iikyaqis Special Claim)

As announced at the Spring People’s Assembly on March 29, 2025, Toquaht citizens are eligible for a one-time special claim, the t̓iikyaqis Special Claim.

In 2013, Toquaht submitted a Logging on Former IRs t̓iikyaqis 2 & Macoah 1 (1950-52) specific claim under Canada’s Specific Claims Policy, alleging, among other things, the unlawful taking of and failure to compensate for Logging on Former t̓iikyaqis IR No. 2 and Former Macoah IR No. 1 from 1950-1952.

Toquaht has successfully settled the Specific Claim with Canada. This settlement reflects a commitment to reconciliation and addressing historical grievances.

As part of this settlement, Toquaht will be providing a one-time distribution to citizens—ensuring that the benefits of this resolution are shared with our people and recognizing the lasting impacts of the past.

In order to receive this claim, citizens MUST complete the CLAIM APPLICATION FORM for themselves and all children under the age of 17 and return the form to Naomi Mack immediately.

  • The deadline for applications for the t̓iikyaqis Special Claim is Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 4 p.m.
  • The distribution will be made via EFT (direct deposit) or mailed by cheque on May 23, 2025.

Applications received after this deadline will have a later distribution date than the May 23 distribution.

You must include an email address for EFT (direct deposit) payment. If you have not provided current banking information, your payment will be made by cheque to the mailing address currently on file. Returned EFT or cheques may not be redistributed.

Please update your contact information if any of your information has changed.
